In response to concerns about report quality and consistency, UC Berkeley launched a comprehensive Report Writing Course for Qualified Medical Evaluators (QMEs). Designed to help physicians meet DWC standards and produce clear, defensible reports, the course covers best practices in structure, legal compliance, and clinical justification. Though released a few years ago, it's still highly recommended for both new and experienced evaluators looking to refine their skills and avoid costly errors.
On April 3, 2025, the DWC posted adjustments to the Official Medical Fee Schedule (Physician Services / Non-Physician Practitioner Services). These adjustments are part of the DWC's ongoing efforts to align reimbursement rates with current medical service costs and ensure fair compensation for providers.
To become a QME, physicians must hold an active California license, complete a 16-hour report writing course, and pass the DWC’s competency exam. Additional requirements vary by specialty (MD, DC, PsyD, etc.), and regular continuing education is required for reappointment.
